Mourning Society of St. Louis presents: Consolations of Memory 2017 - The Funeral of Gen. Price

This year’s presentations remembers the 150th anniversary of the burial of Governor of Missouri and General of the Civil War; Sterling Price.  Though the focus is on the general, that same day, the Price family also laid to rest Sterling's daughter in-law - Celeste.

The event is a guided cemetery walk of the area surrounding Hotchkiss Chapel. Along the way guests will learn about mourning practices and funerary customs of the mid-19th century. During the tour the Mourning Society of St Louis will be depicting the funeral procession and burial service of Sterling Price and his daughter in-law Celeste which took place in 1867 as well as several other vignettes featuring prominent people from the Civil War Era.

This presentation is done in three cycles; 10:00, 12:00 and 2:00.  Each cycle will begin upon arrival and parking in Red Bud Valley.  Once parked proceed to the reception tent for assignment of your guide who will lead you through the stations of the event.  The service of Sterling and Celeste will take place at 11:00, 1:00 and 3:00.  Once the service is concluded attendees will procced to addtional presentations concerning topics of traditions of the era.

This tour will cover moderate terrian and some steps.  If special requirements are needed for an attendee please contact dfuller@bellefontainecmetery.org a week prior to the event.
